Dear Tanushree, Thank you for recommending my blogs. Despite the efforts at conservation, the Ajanta paintings are fading and getting damaged. It is just a matter of time before they become memory. We should be happy that we saw the paintings when they were much better. Thanks for the comment. Charuavi
Dear Palahali,
I read your blog. Interestingly enough, the picture of Lonar crater in your blog looked exactly like the view we had of it from the aeroplane-- arid and lifeless.
Compare and contrast that picture with our pictures and you will see what a miracle the monsoon has worked on Lonar. Everything is green and beautiful.
Nature has just to wave her magic want to convert an unappealing picture into a tempting one.
Thanks for your comment.

Dear palahali,
I do have an unabridged copy of Decameron. We had a large library at home and not much control over the children who picked up ANY book from it to read.
I read it as a teenager and was quite ashamed that I had read it.
I never told anyone that I read it, but now I am at an age, where I can confess.
Thank you bringing it to readers' notice.

Dear palahali,
I read this article as recommended by you and found it interesting.
People all over the world have a tendency to worship such 'akashat patitam' objects. Lonar is regarded as a sacred place and called 'Taratirth'.
I have read somewhere that the Great mosque at Kaaba houses such an object, which Muslims regard as sacred. I cannot vouch for this as I am not in a position to visit Mecca.
Thanks for the info.

Dear Avinashjee,
What were your findings about the microbes? I am just curious though I have no knowledge of even elementary biology.
The water of the lake DID look very green and also had bubbles.
I believe you are right and this impact was witnessed by humans though they may have been wearing only animal skins and carrying clubs.
Thank you for your appreciation.

Dear Keshav,
Film-makers try to cater to the taste of the Lowest Common Denominator of public. If public likes this kind of lampooning, they WILL provide it.
I personally think like you that nobody should lampoon another person (with the exception of cartoonists lampooning self-serving politicians). However, if this is the kind of 'humour' that sells, then the buyers are equally at fault as the sellers.
I have not seen OSO. I will have to see it now.
This is a good, thought-provoking writeup. Why our collective taste has sunk so low?

Dear Keshav,
The cave paintings are funter damaged, so I am afraid, you will be rather sad after seeing them.
However, the scenic beauty of the surroundings is enhanced. Tourist facilities also have increased.
Thank you for the compliment.

Dear Keshav,
The depth from the crater's rim to the edge of water is 500 feet. The depth of the lake is another 170 meters. So the impact must indeed have been massive.
Thank you for your appreciation.

Dear Rampu,
Let us be thankful that Ajanta and Ellora were not destroyed and enjoy the treasures while they last.
Thanks for the compliment.
