 Fall Foliage

It is that time of the year again when I remember my days in Grand Rapids, Michigan and the wonderful Fall that we had there that year.
(Autumn is called Fall in USA because the trees shed their leaves.)

Vermont might have inspired Ogden Nash to pen the following lines, but the Fall colors that I witnessed that year compare well with Vermont’s.

Kipling's Vermont

The summer like a rajah dies,
And every widowed tree
Kindles for Congregationalist eyes
An alien suttee

The blazing, flaming colors of the Fall start developing in September, reach their peak in October and November (depending upon the region) and die down before December.

(The spellings of September, October, November are alright, but in my opinion, December is too cold for the ‘ber’ part and should be spelled as Decemburr.)

I have a few photos of the fall colors and one of December. The Fall photos are from Detroit while the wintry snowscape is from the Sierra Nevadas.

I satiated myself that Fall by looking at the colors of the trees. I even took my granddaughter Mitali along in a stroller to look at the colors. It was a wasteful exercise, because she slept.

I came back from USA in March and in dear old Mumbai, the blazing, flaming  Gulmohur trees and the Palash trees (Flame of the Forest?) welcomed me with an equally flagrant display of the Spring colors.

I love the colors.
